As I was browsing my Credit Karma account recently, I came across an alarming message: “We Found Your Info In 13 Data Breaches With One Exposed Password”. The information listed was my email address, usernames and one password which were all created specifically for each login I use – something considered basic security practice by experts – however with today’s sophisticated hacking techniques this often isn’t enough to protect our accounts.
With my warning as motivation, I decided to take steps to protect myself by performing a security audit and activating two-factor authentication on all of the accounts for which I had not already done so, starting with financial accounts such as Vanguard (even just the thought of hackers accessing it is enough to keep me awake at night!). I strongly urge all readers of this blog to do the same immediately – hackers have stepped up their game lately, as evidence suggests they have attempted accessing accounts belonging to numerous individuals, with an international cyber war now escalated this is an opportunity not to hesitate or procrastinate!
