Generation Y and Their Endless Cycle of Return

“Generation Y” or the “Millennial Generation” refers to those born between 1980 and 1993 in America (no doubt including many readers of this blog) who fall within either one of two broad classifications.

Recent developments among this age group have given them other names; some not quite flattering.

Have you heard the terms, “Generation Why?, Generation Me and “The Facebook Generation”, often in reference to their generation’s cynicism, narcissism or attraction towards virtual versus in-person communication respectively?

Recently, two additional labels have emerged for this group of people: “The Boomerang Generation” and the “Go Nowhere Generation”.

Recent surveys conducted across the nation revealed that 8 out of 10 graduates planned on moving back home after college graduation, and that young adults aged 25-34 living in multigenerational households have more than doubled since 1980 – from 11% back then to 22% today! Furthermore, 40% of 18 to 24 year-olds reside with their parents; making for quite the boomerang effect (or have never left in the first place!).
