Over the last decade, I’ve gradually switched my household grocery spend towards Costco due to their suitability for items like gas, dog food and alcohol as well as Kirkland store brand items with lower margins. Unfortunately (by design), however, Costco doesn’t carry everything – in fact they boast about their limited selection (“4,000 SKUs compared with the 30,000 found at most supermarkets”). We still shop Trader Joe’s, Kroger and occasionally ALDI for other SKUs that they do carry (though we frequent Kroger more often for five reasons).
They carry a broad selection of SKUs; offer high-quality generic products at great value; offer seasonal sales on those items; have an impressive produce section and convenient locations near us that make shopping simple.
BJ’s doesn’t charge membership fees like BJ’s, Costco or Sam’s Club do (there may be ways of shopping at Costco without becoming a member and at Sam’s Club without signing up), yet still offer plenty of coupons and discounts!
