The True Expense of Possessions: A Reflection on Consumer Existentialism

Before purchasing any item, we are keenly aware of its cost. We consciously perceive this number, evaluate whether we believe the item justifies this cost, and make a decision based on our perceptions of value. Some may also take the additional step of conducting some research prior to their purchase to help determine whether we’re getting a “good deal”, or at least better prices than competitors offer.

After purchasing, our role as consumers in a consumerist economy is done and dusted. Hopefully we use said item, leaving a satisfying sense of fulfillment from our purchasing decision.
